So you want to buy a puppy
- How does the waitlist work? You are encouraged to add your name and what color/gender of puppy you are looking for to the waitlist. To be added to the waitlist you must first submit a questionnaire. You can access this questionnaire here .Waitlist members are informed when delivery has occurred. If you have selected a specific color or gender I will only contact you if I have that specific color or gender. I do not take advance deposits. Hold Payments and contracts are only accepted once delivery has occurred and a puppy has been selected. Puppies are quickly reserved so if you see one you like, don't hold off as we commonly have more buyers than puppies available.
- What are your prices? Puppy prices vary by puppy. For our current general pricing guide please click here. If we have available puppies you will also see each puppy's price above their photo.
- I see a puppy I would like to reserve. How do I start the process? If you already have a questionnaire on file simply send me an email at [email protected] . If you have not yet submitted a questionnaire do that first AND send me an email with the name of the puppy you are interested in. Your questionnaire must be reviewed and approved before placing a hold on a puppy. I try my best to keep the website updated but sometimes I get several emails at once about a specific puppy. If someone has told me they want a specific puppy, and he/she is available I will place that puppy on "Pending Hold". At that time I will send you a contract through Docusign. You have 24 hours to review and sign the contract or it becomes void. A hold payment must be sent at the time of signing to secure the puppy. Hold Payments can be sent via Venmo or Paypal (Venmo preferred) or can be sent via USPS Priority Mail. Both the hold payment and contract are required to reserve a pup.
- How does the Hold Payment work? A $500 payment and signed contract is required to reserve a pup. Hold Payments are not refundable. The Hold Payment may be transferred to another pup if you like, but once a hold is made on an available pup, it is not refundable. Hold Payments may be made through PayPal or Venmo Please select "friends and family" when making your payment. If you prefer to use goods and services a 10% convenience fee will be added. This is because we are charged a percentage and the funds are held in limbo up to 2 weeks before being released. Hold Payments are then applied to the purchase price of the puppy. Example: Puppy Price $2000. Hold Payment $500/ Due at pickup: $1500. If a puppy you have reserved becomes unavailable due to injury, illness or death you can decide to move your reservation to a different puppy or to receive your hold payment back.
- When do puppies go to their new homes? Pups may typically go home once they reach 8 weeks of age. If the breeder determines a pup needs more time to grow before they travel home, the buyer will be notified. Make sure you are going to be available to care for your new puppy when it is time for them to go home. Do not schedule a vacation or plan to leave your young puppy alone. If you are ready to add a puppy to your life then you need to be ready for the time commitment that a young puppy is. If a puppy is ready to go home at 8 weeks but you are unavailable for pickup on that day we will keep your puppy an additional week free of charge. After a week a $15 per day boarding charge will be assessed. This is to pay for additional food, potty box pellets, and care.
- Are the puppies potty trained? Puppies are litter box trained by the time they go home. They have a large litter box that is in the pen where the pups are housed. Once they can tolerate short trips outdoors we take them out regularly to encourage them to go potty outside. Potty training takes time and pups can only hold their potty for a short time (# months old = # hours they can hold it). It takes months of diligent practice before they will be accident free in a large space. Plan on potty training until they are 4 to 5 months old, or older depending on the puppy.
- How do I pick up my puppy? You must pick up your pup in person or arrange for the pup to be delivered. If you require other arrangements please discuss this with me before a hold payment is made. A fee may be charged for delivery. If you are flying in to pick up a pup, I prefer Sacramento International Airport. AIrline regulations do not allow for the shipment of brachycephalic dogs and puppies in cargo. You will need to fly them in cabin in a Sherpa Bag or other airline approved carriers. Airlines will charge a fee for the puppy to fly in the cabin with you. Check with your airline to determine their requirements and fees. There are also puppy transporters who will transport your puppy for a fee.
- Can my puppy get sick? Pups are extremely vulnerable to disease. Make sure any pets in your home are in good health before meeting the new pup. Outdoor areas are sources of possible illness. Wildlife that can wander into your yard and may carry disease and or parasites which can be easily picked up by your puppy are a risk. Dog parks are extremely dangerous for new pups.
- Do I have to take the puppy to the vet? You should take your new puppy to your veterinarian for a health check within 48hours of going home. Select a veterinarian and schedule your puppies visit in advance of picking up your puppy. Do not put you puppy on the floor or any uncleaned surface while at the vet. Use a potty pad on tables and scales, for wait times use a carrier or hold you puppy. This is where sick pets are taken, it is easy to pick up illness there.
- What should I feed my puppy? Our puppies have been maintained on Pro Plan Sport 30/20 Sport (all life stages) kibble. While they are here their food has been softened by soaking it in warm water prior to feeding. Plan on purchasing Pro Plan 30/20 Sport (Purple Bag) prior to bringing your puppy home or ask for a transition pack to use while you slowly transition the puppy to your chosen food. Do not abruptly change the puppies diet, doing so will cause diarrhea.
